In an era where the legal landscape is shifting towards a more gender-balanced future, there remains significant work to be done to ensure equitable representation for women across all levels of the profession. With a commitment to supporting women in law, here at Legalwise Seminars, a female-founded organisation, we took immense pride in our collaboration with the Women Lawyers Association of NSW (WLANSW) for their esteemed awards gala dinner earlier this month.

As part of our dedication to celebrating exceptional female legal minds, the event not only honoured trailblazing women who have paved the way for future generations but also recognised those who are currently shaping the course of the legal profession. The acceptance speeches resonated with gratitude for the women who have played pivotal roles in the winners’ journeys – from mothers to mentors and iconic figures like Janet Coombs AM.

Teela Reid, Lawyer, writer, and advocate of Wiradjuri and Wailwan heritage, delivered a poignant Keynote Address highlighting the resilience and impact of the First Nations Matriarchy and revered leaders like Mum Shirl. Her words reminded us all of the immense courage needed to speak truth to power.

Congratulations were extended to Karen Iles, the recipient of the Private Practice Lawyer of the Year award, as well as to all the remarkable finalists across various categories. The event left a lasting mark on everyone in attendance, uniting women in support of one another and fostering inspiration, insight, and empowerment.

Legalwise welcomed the fabulous Louise Mathias Barrister, Mediator, High-Performance Coach & Consultant live at Legalwise HQ (and live online- streaming across Australia) with the first instalment of the hotly anticipated series From Burned Out to Empowered: Tools Every Lawyer Needs In Their Survival Kit.

Session 1 focused on identifying and managing High Conflict Personalities (HCPs) and was both insightful and informative, offering tips and tricks to navigate these relationships.

The session is available to watch again on demand, or perhaps you’d like to register for Louise’s further sessions on Friday 1st and 8th September, from 1-2pm (AEST) where she will explore Learning to Say No and Letting Go of the Need for the Approval of Others.
