Mr. Geoff Hancy, Barrister, Leading Insurance & Personal Injury Law Barristers
Geoffrey Hancy is a barrister with his own modern chambers. He is among Western Australia's most experienced trial lawyers and appeal advocates. He has been counsel in well over 250 completed trials and appeals, including appeals to the High Court, in civil and commercial litigation disputes. He holds honours degrees in jurisprudence and law, a Master of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics. He studied the law of damages under Prof Harold Luntz at the University of Melbourne over 30 years ago. He has a special interest in using computers and technology in litigation and has his own web site www.hancy.net

Rod has a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University (2012). In his final year, we was awarded the AILA Prize in Insurance Law and the Maire Corcoran Prize in Criminology. Before commencing practice at Central Law Chambers, Rod was a paralegal for 22 years and then a senior lawyer for another 10 years. Over that time, he worked for well-known WA firms Parker & Parker, Talbot & Olivier & SRB Legal. He also worked for a sole practitioner for 7 years. He has been recognised by his peers as a leading Perth CTP lawyer, (as published in the Doyle’s Guide). After graduating, Rod worked as a guest lecturer at Murdoch University, covering Legal Costs, Assessment of Damages, and CTP Insurance. He has also been a guest lecturer at Central TAFE, teaching Occupational Safety and Health Law to building students. Throughout his career, Rod has been proud to be known as an evidence-based thinker and practitioner.
Mr. Geoff Bourhill SC, Francis Burt Chambers
Geoff Bourhill was admitted to practise in 1981, and spent the first 5 years of his professional life acting for plaintiffs in personal injury claims in the areas of workers' compensation, employers' liability, public liability and motor vehicle accidents. In 1985, he joined Lavan Solomon (soon to become Philips Fox), and was made a partner of that firm in 1987. His practise increasingly focused on acting for insurers, and over the following 19 years at Phillips Fox and a further 4 years following its transition to Lavan Legal, he acted for many workers' compensation, public liability and CTP insurers in Australia. Geoff also developed a practise in professional indemnity claims, acting for the insurers of doctors, hospitals and lawyers. In 2010, Geoff left Lavan Legal and joined Tottle Partners, remaining there until June 2016. In July 2016, Geoff commenced practise as an independent barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. Before joining the Bar, Geoff was a member of the legal panels of Insurance Commission of WA, MDA Insurance Pty Ltd, Transport Accident Commission and formerly Law Mutual and SGIO / CGU. Geoff has appeared as counsel in numerous trials, inquests and appeals. He has been solicitor and in several instances trial counsel in a number of matters that have ultimately been determined by the High Court, including Denn v Midland Brick Company Proprietary Limited, Dickinson v Motor Vehicle Insurance Trust, Jones v Bartlett, Insurance Commission of Western Australia v Container Handlers Pty Ltd, The State of South Australia v Ellis and Miller v Miller. Geoff has a particular interest in the assessment of damages in catastrophic claims, policy coverage under compulsory third party insurance schemes, all medical negligence claims and asbestos claims. He is a member of the Law Society's Courts Committee and Personal Injuries.
