Alistair Knox, Partner, Pikes & Verekers
Alistair is part of the local government and planning law team at Pikes and Verekers, acting for both private and public clients. Alistair worked at the Land and Environment Court during his legal studies. During this time, Alistair worked in various roles through the registry as well as doing work for various Judges and Commissioners of the Court. This role required Alistair to be familiar with all classes of the Court’s jurisdiction. Through his studies, Alistair also gained valuable experience working in other areas of the law including regional practice (family, conveyancing, personal injury), legal aid (criminal) and work as a tipstaff at the Industrial Relations Commission.


Mr Justin Brown, Barrister,
Justin has been listed since 2017 in the Doyle’s Guide as Recommended Junior Counsel in the area of Leading Wills & Estates Litigation Junior Counsel. He is recognised for the depth and breadth of his advocacy skills, understanding of complex legal issues and strategic thinking. Justin is also a lecturer in succession law at the University of Sydney and has been a guest lecturer in the courses offered by the College of Law in the Master of Applied Law (Wills and Estates). He regularly appears for executors, trustees and beneficiaries of deceased estates at both trial and appellate level, primarily in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, as well as in the High Court in Nobarani v Mariconte [2018] HCA 36. Justin possesses considerable advocacy experience and provides sound legal advice in both contentious and non-contentious matters. He has completed LEADR’s Mediator’s Course and regularly appears as counsel for clients at mediations. Justin holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Sydney and a Masters of Applied Laws specialising in wills and estate. Prior to being called to the Bar in 2013, Justin practised as a solicitor and was instructed in several leading cases in wills and estate litigation.


Mr Gavin Stuart, Partner,
Gavin Stuart Gavin is head of Bartier Perry’s Dispute Resolution & Advisory team and has over 25 years’ legal experience. His appearances in the NSW Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Australia and specialist tribunals have shown him the negative impacts of litigation, as well as the positive ones. For that reason, he helps his clients avoid the litigation treadmill where he can. Instead, he prefers to solve their disputes through strategies designed to shorten exposure to litigation such as negotiation or mediation. Gavin’s practice focuses on property related disputes, finance recoveries, insolvency, intellectual property matters and Corporations issues and directors duties. An area of focus for Gavin is helping his clients extricate themselves from broken partnership, shareholder and joint venture relationships and seeing them to a position where they can get on with their next opportunity. Gavin also regularly advises online businesses and specialises in helping clients get better outcomes in disputes involving unlawful online conduct, copyright and confidential information.


Ms Rani Gandha, Partner,
Rani Gandha is the Partner in charge of the Business, Commercial and Property team at Turnbull Hill Lawyers. She acts in a wide range of property work, including acting for buyers and sellers of residential and commercial property and for lenders and borrowers in respect of residential mortgage matters. She has extensive expertise in dealing with all types of real property, including Old System, Torrens Title, Qualified Title and Strata Title. Rani also acts for clients in respect of resumptions of property by Transport for NSW, creating easements by way of Transfer and acts for land developers in respect of subdivisions. She advises clients on commercial and retail property leasing matters including negotiation and preparation of leasing documents and assists clients in a wide range of business issues. Dedicated to ensuring her clients’ interests are adequately protected, Rani users her experience to understand their goals and objectives and gives them realistic and practical advice. Rani also has a keen interest in and practises in Estate Planning (including tax effective Wills and associated documents).


Mr. Gary Newton, Partner,
Gary Newton is a partner in the Property and Development Group of HWL Ebsworth Lawyers. He has been practising in the area of property law since 1983, providing advice on a wide range of matters to business, government and individuals. Gary holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sydney and is an Accredited Specialist in Property Law, since 1994. Gary is a long standing member of the Property Law Committee of the Law Society of NSW. Gary is the co-author of a book published in December 2017 called "Land Acquisition" 7th edition by Gary Newton and Christopher Conolly. Gary is also the co-author of a book "Real Property Law Case Summaries" Newton’s 4th edition and the co-author and the co-editor of the LexisNexis Butterworths NSW Conveyancing Service (loose-leaf). He is also sole author and editor of the book ‘Annotated Conveyancing & Real Property Legislation in NSW’ 2022-203. Gary has been listed again in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers and Doyles Guide for Leasing Law and for Real Property Law.


Mr. Dominic Maley, Partner,
Dominic Maley was made a partner of Maclarens Lawyers in 2015. He is a Casual Academic at WSU, where since 2017 he has been the sole lecturer in Professional Practice and Building Law, and more recently he has taken up positions at the university teaching Building Law (under grad), Construction Law (post grad) (Course Coordinator), and the Expert Evidence modules of Construction Claims. He is also a Casual Academic at UTS, where he is the Course Coordinator in Property Transactions, as well as two new upcoming subjects: (i) Contractual Documentation, and (ii) Construction Law. Dominic has built up a large practice in option contracts, conveyancing, easements, retail and commercial leasing, and property law related litigation.
