Mr. Nick Holuigue, Partner, Development Practice Team Leader, Maddocks
Nick has extensive experience in advising on a myriad of real estate transactions and is an active member of key industry bodies, including as Board member of UDIA Victoria. He acts for commercial investors and developers both private and listed active in the property sector. He has extensive experience throughout the delivery chain from complex acquisitions and associated due diligence, documenting agreements with land owners and/or joint ventures through to owners corporation structuring and delivery of subdivisions and the management of a high volume leasing and sales. Nick’s areas of legal expertise include advising on residential towers and communities, retail, shopping centres and bulky goods centres, property acquisitions and disposals and associated due diligence management, joint venture advice and community master planning. Nick is client relationship partner for many of the firms largest offshore and local commercial developer clients, including Beulah, Mirvac, Satterley, OSK, Dahua Group, Golden Age, Tong Eng, World Class Land, Roxy Pacific, Milieu, Nightingale and Blueways. In that role, he manages the provision of a variety of legal services throughout the project lifecycle.
Mr. Rajan Verma, Director, Velocity Legal
Rajan started his career in tax in 2006 and has since amassed significant expertise in advising small to medium enterprises and privately owned businesses on complex taxation matters. His particular interests include complex business restructuring, property development, international taxation and trust law matters. In addition, Rajan has a wealth of experience in advising on state revenue and income tax matters generally as well as managing complex disputes with the Australian Taxation Office and state revenue authorities. Rajan regularly presents to members of the CPA and IPA and enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise in tax with his colleagues, friends and other members of the profession. Rajan holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne and is a Chartered Tax Advisor with The Tax Institute.
Mr. Matthew Townsend, Barrister, Owen Dixon Chambers
Matthew Townsend practises exclusively in planning and environment and property law. He has taught in the Trial Practice and Advocacy program at Monash University and teaches in the Property Law program at Melbourne University. In 2000 Matthew was awarded the Public Interest Law Clearing House Pro Bono Award by the Governor of Victoria for his work in environmental litigation. He was Dux of International Environmental Law at Leiden University in Holland in 1992 and was the inaugural winner of the JF Kearney, QC prize in environmental law in 1991. Matthew maintains Restrictive Covenants and Easements in Victoria, a website providing casenotes and resources about the modification and removal of restrictive covenants and easements in Victoria.
Mr. Nicholas Jones, Barrister, Svenson Barristers
Nicholas Jones is a barrister and a member of the Victorian Bar. He was admitted to practice in 1986. Nicholas signed the roll of counsel in 1991 and has practised as a barrister since that time. In addition, Nicholas is a nationally accredited mediator. His practice at the Bar includes Court and Tribunal appearances, drawing pleadings and other court documents and providing advice. He has practised extensively in the area of property law for a number of years including matters involving the Subdivision Act 1989, the Owners Corporation Act 2006, easements, caveats, adverse possession and landlord and tenant including disputes under the retail leasing legislation. Nicholas appears regularly at VCAT and at Court in disputes in relation to these areas of practice.
Mr. Mark Bartley, Partner, HWL Ebsworth
Mark is an LIV Accredited Specialist in Environment, Planning and Government with over 30 years legal experience. He advises on all planning, environment and major project approvals, water law and governance. He frequently appears in VCAT, Planning Panels and Advisory Committees representing local government and statutory authorities as well as land owners and developers. Mark’s background includes 15 years in town planning and project management before commencing legal practice. He brings a practical solution focused approach to property development, and all local, state and Commonwealth approval processes. He has acted in the water industry for 30 years advising on major projects, water policy, catchment protection, legislation and regulation and water trading. Mark also advises on probity and governance issues and has acted as a State Government probity auditor. He has run legal and governance training programs for local government councillors and directors of water authorities.
