Mr. Chris Marchesi, Special Counsel, Gilbert + Tobin
Chris is a special counsel in Gilbert + Tobin's Energy + Resources group in Perth, specialising in mining, oil & gas, renewables and infrastructure projects and M&A. He advises Australian and international energy and resources companies, project owners and investors across a wide range of project development matters and transactions in the energy and resources industry. His work spans project development, land access, environment, clean energy, State Agreements, offtakes, acquisitions, disposals, financings, joint ventures, approvals and regulatory matters.


Mr. Nate Smith, CEO, Tellus Holdings
Nate is a global leader with a consistent record of success in a broad range of industries – including logistics, warehousing and distribution, technology, financial services, mining, infrastructure and waste management. Nate has additionally led the launch of multiple start-ups and also served as a senior executive at, or advisor for, some of the largest companies in the world. Nate joined Tellus as a general counsel and company secretary in June 2019 before becoming managing director in November 2020. Prior to joining Tellus, Nate was Vice President and lawyer for UPS in Atlanta (USA), where he supported various areas of a multi-billion dollar business, including key B2B sales relationships, global M&A, UPS’s venture capital fund, procurement, compliance and UPS’s Emerging Markets business unit. He also helped launch Ware2Go, a technology and logistics venture backed by BCG Digital Ventures. Before UPS, Nate worked for the global law firms of Sullivan & Cromwell and Latham & Watkins (in Sydney, London and the U.S.), focusing on corporate matters, particularly capital markets, governance and securities. He also worked as a business strategy consultant for IBM. Nate holds a Juris Doctor with High Honours from Emory Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs with Distinction from the University of Virginia. He is qualified to practise law in New South Wales, California and Washington D.C. and is a former adjunct professor on international legal transactions at Emory Law School.


Mr. Geoff Latimer, Managing Director, Ascend Waste and Environment
As Director and sole operator of the company, Geoff Latimer is an Australian hazardous waste regulatory expert with over 30 years’ experience in the region. From understanding laboratory techniques and the nature of chemical hazards, through to projects regarding hazardous waste/ chemicals classification, data interpretation, regulatory assessment and policy analysis and impact projections, Geoff has a solid grounding in chemicals and the environment. He has also operated in a State and Federal environmental legislative context, from both the regulator’s and regulated’s perspective, for the last 20 years.


Ms. Kavita Paw, General Counsel & Company Secretary, Tellus Holdings
Kavita Paw is a senior corporate and commercial lawyer with experience in equity capital markets, debt capital markets, and M&A. For over ten years, she has advised Australian and offshore clients on initial public offerings, capital raisings, note programs, private placements, acquisitions, divestments, credit facilities and general commercial matters. Kavita’s previous private practice roles were in the United States and Australia, at top-tier law firms Davis Polk & Wardwell, Sullivan & Cromwell and Jones Day. She has also worked as a senior lawyer at Chevron Corporation.


Ms. Marina Georgiou, Barrister, Francis Burt Chambers
Marina Georgiou is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. Prior to joining the bar, Marina worked at the State Solicitor's Office where she conducted a broad practice. Marina has appeared in variety of matters in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, Federal Court, District Court and Magistrate's Court. Marina practices in public law and commercial law, with a specialty in constitutional, administrative and environment law. between 2016 and 2017, Marina was on placement at the Department of Environment Regulation.
