Stephen Wright SC, Francis Burt Chambers
Stephen Wright is an experienced barrister who specialises in native title, taxation, trusts and mining law. Stephen joined the Western Australian Bar in 2010 and was appointed senior counsel in 2017. Prior to joining the Bar he was a Judge’s associate, a commercial litigator at Malleson, worked for 11 years at the Western Australian State Solicitor’s Office, and had his own private practice. Stephen has a wealth of experience in native title related issues dating back to 1996. He is a leading native title barrister, having been counsel in many native title claims and in ‘future act’ litigation and arbitrations at all levels, and more recently in compensation claims. He represents native title parties and representative bodies, government and mining interests. He is also an experienced and effective negotiator having provided advice and representation to various parties involved in numerous ILUA and other native title agreement negotiations, including in relation to the establishment of benefits management (trust) structures and taxation issues. Stephen also provides stamp duty and other tax advice (including income tax and GST) and appears in tax cases in the Court of Appeal (WA), Federal Court, and State and Commonwealth Tribunals.


Joel Yeldon, Barrister, Fourth Floor Chambers
Joel Yeldon practises as a barrister and as a member of Francis Burt Chambers in Perth, Western Australia. He practices mainly in property law and in building and construction disputes. Joel also has a good range of experience in other legal areas, more latterly in disputes involving misrepresentations made during the course of business sales transactions. Broadly speaking, his experience has involved equitable estates in real property, trustee/beneficiary disputes, vendor/purchaser disputes, professional indemnity issues, and trade practices and tortious claims against stockbrokers, architects and engineers. Over the years, Joel has also been a lecturer in law at university level. For example, in 2012, he lectured in the law of negligence at Murdoch University. Daniel Romano, Principal, Zafra Legal
Daniel Romano is the Principal of Zafra Legal. Daniel graduated from Murdoch University in 2002 with a double degree in Law and Commerce (Majoring in Accounting). Daniel worked as the Principal of Wilson & Atkinson Taxation and Commercial Lawyers which was established as an independent taxation and commercial law firm in December 1991. Daniel is an integral part of a team of 7 lawyers whose principal focus has expanded to cover all aspects of taxation, taxation dispute resolution, commercial, corporate law, property law and commercial litigation matters with clients ranging from public companies, privately owned multi-national corporate groups, international and local accountancy firms and high net worth families. Daniel has acted as Counsel on matters before the Federal Court, the Full Court of the Federal Court, the Supreme Court, the Full Court of the Supreme Court, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the State Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Matthew Sunits, Senior Associate, Zafra Legal
Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia. Matthew is a specialist taxation lawyer. Matthew has particular experience in managing audits being conducted by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and in running taxation appeals in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Court of Australia. Matthew is also a key member of our taxation advisory practice, and regularly advises clients on a range of tax and duty issues. Matthew has previously worked with the Australian Government Solicitor where he managed disputes for the Commissioner of Taxation, and he also has experience in private practice at a boutique taxation law firm and a multinational accounting firm. Matthew is a Chartered Tax Advisor and a member of the Law Society of Western Australia.


Mary Pringle, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs
Mary Pringle has over 20 years' experience practising in Real Estate law, having also spent time working as a banking and finance lawyer and as an energy and resources lawyer. Mary has also spent time working in-house for a public company in the resources sector. As a result of this experience, Mary has acted for a wide range of clients on a wide range of matters. These matters have included subdivisions, environmental and planning issues, development projects, acquisitions and disposals of shopping centres, office buildings and industrial complexes, joint ventures, strata titles and leasing both for landlords and tenants. Mary has acquired a broad range of experience and skills and a good understanding of what clients require from their lawyers, both as to quality and practicality of advice as well as accessibility and responsiveness.

Julius Skinner is one of Western Australia’s leading planning and environment lawyers, advising clients throughout all stages of the planning and environmental approval processes.
