Michelle has a broad civil and commercial practice and accepts briefs to advise and appear in all Australian jurisdictions, including as counsel in alternative dispute resolution processes. She has particular specialist experience practising in the areas of defamation and media law. Other significant areas of practice include contract, property, consumer law, corporations law, intellectual property, administrative law, common law negligence, estates and equity. Prior to joining the independent bar, Michelle enjoyed a broad and varied commercial practice within the Commercial Dispute Resolution team at a top tier national firm for over a decade. During that time, she also gained experience on secondment in-house with ABC Legal.

Michael Stannard is a Partner in Mellor Olsson’s Property team, specialising in major property transactions and development projects across South Australia. He advises on the acquisition, disposal, development and leasing of commercial, industrial, residential and agricultural property, with particular expertise in high value and strategically significant matters. Michael acts for developers, investors, asset owners, property funds, commercial entities, landlords and tenants, and is known for delivering practical, commercially focused advice on transactions where structuring, risk allocation and timely delivery are critical. He regularly leads complex acquisitions and divestments and advises across the full transaction lifecycle, including due diligence, transaction structuring and contract negotiation. He has extensive experience drafting and negotiating development agreements, construction contracts, off the plan documentation, land access and option agreements, and community and strata title documentation. Michael also has significant leasing expertise, advising landlords and tenants on complex commercial, industrial and agricultural portfolios. Michael’s practice includes significant infrastructure and renewable energy projects, advising on land access, easements and leasing arrangements for wind farms, solar farms, battery projects and telecommunications infrastructure. He is a member of the Property Council of Australia and the Urban Development Institute of Australia, and sits on the Property Council’s Tax and Economic Trends Committee and the Law Society of South Australia’s Property Committee. Michael has been recognised as a Rising Star by Doyle’s Guide and Australasian Lawyer.
