Carol Younes, Partner, Hugo Law GroupCarol is an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law and founding partner of Hugo Law Group, one of Sydney’s leading criminal defence firms. In 2025, Carol was recognised in the Doyles Guide rankings for Sydney criminal lawyers, as the Market Leader. She has also previously been nominated for Criminal Law Partner of the Year in the Lawyers Weekly Awards. Carol appears in the superior and appellate courts in some of the most notorious criminal cases representing clients charged with murder, serious sex offences, complex frauds, tax evasions, drug manufacture, supply and importation, and terrorism offences. She also appears in complex hearings, sentence proceedings and bail applications. In addition to the work Carol does as a criminal lawyer, she also heads a team of lawyers who appear in inquests and enquiries and who represent individuals bringing claims against the State for unlawful arrests, malicious prosecutions and other intentional torts. Carol recognises the need to always think two steps ahead and to ensure her clients are making the right decisions early on. Larry Pozner, Civil and Criminal Trial Lawyer
When we say that someone “wrote the book” on a subject., we are usually speaking figuratively. In this case it is literally true. Larry Pozner is America’s authority on cross-examination. His book Cross Examination: Science and Techniques (4th Ed., NACDL, by Pozner and Dodd) and his seminars, Pozner on Cross: the Chapter Method, revolutionized our profession’s view of the purposes and methods of modern cross. His second book; Larry Pozner’s Red Book; Lessons in Advanced Cross-Examination, (2025 NACDL, by Larry Pozner ) collected several of his columns that further explored the science of cross-examination. Pozner has long been recognized in Best Lawyers in America in Criminal Law—both white collar and non-white collar, and in civil “Bet the Company” litigation. He is a Past President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and began his career as a Colorado Public Defender. Pozner was trial counsel for more than a decade for the Denver Broncos franchise and its owner, Pat Bowlen. Pozner won the jury trial that challenged Pat Bowlen’s purchase of the Broncos.
