Melanie is a principal in Barry Nilsson Lawyers’ Insurance & Health team and is based in the Brisbane office. Since joining Barry Nilsson in 2003, she has developed a practice in the areas of general liability and professional indemnity acting for local and overseas insurers, and directly for large corporate entities. Melanie is consistently listed in the Best Lawyers for Insurance Law, Personal Injury Litigation and Product Liability Litigation and Doyles Guide for Public and Product Liability and Professional Indemnity. She was also the exclusive winner of the 2018 and 2021 Client Choice Award for Insurance in Australia which recognises solicitors from around the world for the level of client care they provide and the quality of their service.
Ellie Brooks, Senior Associate, Wotton + Kearney
Ellie specialises in cyber and data security and is a member of Wotton + Kearney’s Australian cyber incident response team. She advises on a broad range of cyber incidents, assisting with data breach investigations and preparing notifications to the OAIC and affected individuals. Ellie also has experience advising on cyber insurance coverage for both local and international insurers. She also assists clients prepare for cyber incidents, including developing incident response plans to ensure clients appropriately detect, escalate, investigate, and report incidents. Before joining W+K, Ellie was privacy counsel for an international law firm in their London office, where she gained extensive experience advising clients in relation to privacy law compliance, in particular the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Ellie also holds the CIPP/Europe certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
