Tony Hager, Barrister/Criminal Lawyer, Geoffrey Miller Chambers
Tony has practiced as a Criminal Lawyer in Western Australia and Victoria for over 10 years. Tony has worked as In-House Counsel for both the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. He has appeared as lead counsel in courts of summary jurisdiction, Children’s Court, District Court, County Court and Supreme Court for jury trials, pleas in mitigation and sentencing, contested bail applications and contested interlocutory hearings. Tony has also appeared on behalf of respondents in proceedings brought under the Dangerous Sex Offenders Act. He has particular expertise in traffic matters, including drink driving, driving whilst under suspension and reckless driving. Tony completed a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) at the University of Western Australia in 2007 and Master of Laws (Criminal Justice) in 2012.
Dr Michael Robertson, Director and Clinical Consultant, IFC Forensics
Dr Robertson is a nationally recognised expert in the effects of drugs and alcohol with over 30 years of professional experience. He prepares reports and testifies in all Australian States and Territories and the Asia Pacific region across all Courts levels. Dr Robertson is able to assist in a range of matters where drugs or alcohol may play a role, including Criminal Law, Family Law, Personal Injury and Medical Negligence. In relation to traffic matters, Dr Robertson routinely provides assistance in relation to determining blood alcohol concentration at the time of an incident, including where post-incident alcohol consumption is involved, the level of driving impairment that may occur at various blood alcohol concentrations and the impact of drugs including prescription medications, and whether the breath or blood testing has been performed correctly. He is the current Chair of the Standards Australia Urine Drug Testing Committee and the former Chair of the Standards Australia Oral Fluids Committee, providing him with expertise as to the proper method of undertaking these types of tests across Australia. Dr Robertson's early research in relation to the involvement of drugs in driving led to the implementation of roadside drug testing in Victoria and then throughout Australia.
Greg Barns SC, Barrister, Douglas Menzies Chambers Melbourne
Greg graduated BA LLB from Monash University in 1984. He was a member of the Victorian Bar where he practiced in criminal law from 1986-, 89 and has been a member of the Tasmanian Bar since 2003. Greg was chief of staff and senior adviser to several federal and state Liberal Party leaders and ministers from 1989-99. He is also the former National Chair of the Australian Republican Movement and was National President of the Australian Lawyers Alliance in 2011-12. Greg has written three books on Australian politics, is a spokesman for the Australian Lawyers Alliance, a member of the Australian Defence Lawyers Alliance and Chair of the Tasmanian Prisoners Legal Service. He is an adviser to Julian Assange and WikiLeaks. Greg writes a weekly column in the Hobart Mercury. writes regularly for Crikey and is editor of Counsel, the Tasmanian Bar journal.
Dr Shane Richardson, Principal Forensic Engineer, Managing Director and Owner, Delta V Experts
Shane has provided expert evidence in the Supreme, County, Magistrates and Coroners Courts across Australia (and in Courts in Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and New Zealand) related to collision/incident investigations for Criminal and Civil matters. Shane is a Mechanical Engineer (with a Master of Science and PhD) with more than 36 years' experience and is a Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia) and is registered in: Amusement Rides and Devices In-Service Inspection; Biomedical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Structural Engineering. He has published national and international technical papers on crash investigations.
