The long-awaited legislation for sustainability reporting in Australia has been passed and has introduced the framework for the climate-related financial disclosure regime.  This will significantly affect the way that businesses prepare their annual reports.  With mandatory climate-related financial reporting required from 1 January 2025 for some companies, there may be flow on affects for smaller businesses who provide goods or services to these companies.  You can’t afford to miss this opportunity to hear a comprehensive summary of the new regime and the impacts that it may have for your clients.

Dr. Maria Balatbat, Senior Lecturer, Accounting Auditing and Taxation, UNSW Business School, University of New South Wales
Maria Balatbat is a Senior Lecturer at the Business School and a Founding Director of the Collaboration for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM). Maria’s research interests include integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimensions in investment decision making including, disclosure of climate change information. She is a recipient of several Australian Research Council (ARC) grants with projects that examine the capital market implications of Integrated Reporting and use of environmental and social indicators to develop a valuation methodology for investment decisions. Maria also led a team to develop a built environment impact assessment framework that aims to unlock the value creation capabilities of sustainability reporting in the built environment sector. Maria develops and teaches courses on ESG reporting and value creation and reporting for climate change and sustainability in the Business School. Maria is also a Director at the Australasian Reporting Awards, Fellow of CPA Australia and a member of the Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). Maria has a PhD in Economics at the University of Sydney.
