Dr Joel Lisk, Lecturer in Space Law, Flinders University
Joel Lisk is a lawyer in the corporate and commercial teams at Cowell Clarke in Adelaide. Joel is also a PhD student in space law at the Adelaide Law School, University of Adelaide. At Cowell Clarke, Joel works on a broad range of matters, including those with a focus on consumer and competition law, privacy and data protection, and not-for-profit law. Relevant to the space industry, Joel’s PhD research explores how nations regulate commercial space-related activities whilst balancing the interests of the private industry with international obligations. Joel has published and presented (in Australia and internationally) on this topic and the law applicable to private space activities more generally. Joel is also a Director of the Space Law Council of Australia and New Zealand Ltd – a not for profit, education charity specialising in space law and policy.

Dr Stefan Paterson, Principal, Integrated IP (IIP)
Stefan Paterson is a patent attorney and principal and founder of Paterson IP. With a background in chemistry, biology, materials and engineering, his practice spans a wide range of technology areas. He has a keen interest in how intellectual property protection strategies need to be reformulated and reassessed for emerging technologies. In particular, he has developed a specialist understanding of the interaction of IP laws and space law for the protection of space-related technology, and how this affects commercialisation strategies. He has written many articles, given podcasts, and is often sought after for his views on this quickly emerging area of law.

Em. Prof. Steven Freeland, Emeritus Professor, Western Sydney University and Bond University
Steven Freeland is Emeritus Professor of International Law at Western Sydney University, specialising in Commercial Space Law, and previously the Dean of the School of Law. He also holds Visiting or Adjunct positions at various other Universities/Institutes in Copenhagen, Vienna, Toulouse, Hong Kong, Montreal, Kuala Lumpur, London and Queensland. Prior to becoming an academic, he had a 20-year career as an international commercial lawyer and an investment banker. He is a Member of the Advisory Group of the Australian Space Agency and has been an advisor to the Australian, New Zealand, Norwegian and several other Governments on issues relating to national space legislative frameworks and policy. He has represented the Australian Government at Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS) meetings and has also been appointed by UNCOPUOS to co-chair multilateral discussions on the exploration, exploitation and utilisation of space resources, which will take place in April 2021. He is a Co-Principal of specialised space law firm Azimuth Advisory and is also a Director of the International Institute of Space Law, and a Member of the Space Law Committees of both the International Bar Association and International Law Association.
