Mr. Stuart Shepherd, Barrister, Murray Chambers
Stuart Shepherd is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers (17th Floor). He is the Chairman of the Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia and teaches civil procedure at the University of Western Australia. Stuart provides representation and advice in a broad range of civil and commercial criminal matters at first instance and before the Court of Appeal. Stuart studied law at the University of Western Australia. After admission he was employed for several years at Clayton Utz, primarily undertaking commercial litigation and dispute resolution. For eight years Stuart practiced in the UK where he was a partner at Burton Copeland, London, acting principally in corporate and commercial litigation, corporate regulation, disciplinary and major fraud, trade and industry, tax and excise prosecutions. Stuart has been instructed in numerous cross-jurisdictional , matters involving the United States, Scotland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands. He was a member of a panel of solicitors acting pro bono for inmates on death row in the Bahamas. Since returning to Perth, Stuart has practised at Mallesons (as it then was) and was a , partner at Bennett & Co and Lavan Legal. He was called to the bar in 2008. He has been a member of the Law Society's Courts Committee and Brief Editorial Committee and is currently the legal member on the Joondalup Health Campus, Human Research Ethics Committee. In addition to teaching civil procedure at the University of Western Australia. He has lectured in advocacy for the Articles Training Program and regularly, presents seminars on areas relevant to his practice. Stuart was appointed Chairman of the Legal Aid Commission in June 2011.
Ms. GiGi Visscher, Barrister, Francis Burt Chambers
GiGi joined the bar in 2008. Since being called to the bar, she has principally practiced in commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on construction, property, equity, trade practices and insolvency matters., Prior to joining the bar, GiGi was a solicitor at Freehills, Perth. Before commencing her legal career, GiGi practiced as a Chartered Accountant, including as a forensic accountant. , GiGi has an extensive commercial background, having worked in Singapore, London, Los Angeles, New York and Washington DC. , In addition to her Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours, GiGi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Laws from Georgetown University in Washington DC.
Mr. Dino Travaglini, Director, Travaglini Corporate Advisory
Dino is a director of Travaglini Corporate Advisory, a boutique chartered accounting and corporate advisory firm which specialises in advising distressed businesses and debt restructuring. The key services that his firm provides is: business restructuring and turnaround, debt and financial restructuring, bank and lender negotiation, regulated debt management advice, insolvency advice, independent expert reports and safe harbour advice. His career spans over 30 years, as a registered liquidator and trustee in bankruptcy acting in formal corporate and personal insolvency administrations and corporate restructure. Most of which was as a partner or principal with national chartered accounting and restructure firms, Moore Stephens, Grant Thornton and Cor Cordis. Relevant to today’s presentation, his work requires him to understand the businesses, and their financial position, including professional services practices.
Mr. Pino Monaco, Director, GV Lawyers
Pino Monaco is a director of GV Lawyers and is based in Perth. Pino is the litigation director in the practice and his main area of work is for the housing industry representing builders, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers and for Strata Title body corporates on strata issues. Pino has advised strata companies and strata managers on many legal issues and provided representation at the State Administrative Tribunal, District Court and Supreme Court of Western Australia. Pino is regularly called upon to present at legal and sector-focused conferences and seminars. He is also called on to address general meetings of strata title owners concerning building and related issues and has conducted cases in the various state courts and the State Administrative Tribunal.
